2 Hurt, 1 Arrested in Oceanside Hit-and-Run Crash

Two motorcyclists were hospitalized and a Mercedes driver was arrested after a hit-and-run collision in Oceanside late Saturday.

Colby Steven Goldschmied, 24, of Oceanside faces felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run in connection with the March 7 crash at South Coast Highway and Missouri Avenue.

Oceanside Police said two motorcyclists were found in the roadway near debris and a bumper from a Mercedes when officers arrived to the crash scene just after 7 p.m.

The Mercedes driver had left the scene. Using a fluid trail, officers say they were able to trace the Mercedes to a nearby parking structure. Goldschmied called police a short time later and said he was the driver at the time of the crash.

Goldschmied said he was turning left on Coast Highway when he felt something hit his car, according to police. He told officers he β€œpanicked” and drove home.

One motorcycle rider, a 24-year-old Fallbrook man, was sent to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla. The second motorcyclist, identified as a 25-year-old from Camp Pendleton, was sent to Naval Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.

Officials said both motorcyclists suffered non-life threatening injuries.
