13-year-old Hides Under Bed During Home Burglary

The teenage girl watched in hiding as a man ransacked her home in Chula Vista

A 13-year-old girl was home alone Tuesday when a man broke into her Chula Vista home and began ransacking the rooms.

Police said the break-in began around 10:21 a.m.

The teenager, who was home alone at the time, heard a noise coming from her parent’s bedroom.

When she walked to the hallway she saw a man removing the bedroom window. She then ran back to her own room and hid under her bed, according to authorities.

In hiding, the teen sent her mother a text message telling her to call police because someone was breaking into their house.

While hiding under her bed, the teen heard the suspect moving around her house. Police said she watched him as he entered her bedroom and sifted through her dresser.

The suspect never detected the girl.

When he was finished ransacking the residence, he left.

The victim called 911 and gave dispatchers a description of the suspect.

Police contacted a 52-year-old parolee matching the description and discovered he had stolen items from the victim’s home in his possession.

The suspect, parolee Maurice Faulkner from Chula Vista, was arrested and taken to county jail.

Faulkner’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at South Bay Court.
