Police: Man Crashes Car, Leaves Wife and Baby

Man accused of driving under the influence

A San Diego man is facing serious charges after crashing his car, and taking off on foot, leaving his injured wife and 9-month-old son in the wrecked car.

The accident happened Monday evening on Clairemont Dr. between Emet Ct. and Fox Ave.

Kenneth Biggs is being held on a $100,000 bond and is charged with driving under the influence, hit and run and driving on a suspended license.

Those who witnessed the aftermath of the crash said they can't believe what happened.

"A bang, a huge bang,” said Gloria Woods, who was sleeping early Monday morning when the sound of a car crash woke her up. "As I came out I saw a guy running down and I heard him say, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.”

San Diego Police say that man was 28-year-old Kenneth Biggs Jr. They say his black car slammed into the back of this white van. But instead of sticking around, police say he took off.

There were four people inside the car, police said. The male driver fled the scene on foot after the collision and left the other occupants including his 9-month-old child.

Police said Biggs Jr. not only abandoned his baby in the wrecked car, but also his injured wife and another family member.

"Her head was bleeding she was holding her baby, you know of course she was shaken up,” Woods said.

The car's bumper was still lying on the side of the road Monday evening, along with a pair of baby pants.
