One person died after a single car crash in Carlsbad Thursday night, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said.
The crash happened at approximately 11:18 p.m. when a 21-year-old man was driving his 1999 Honda Prelude eastbound on State Route 78 just west of El Camino Real, Bettencourt said.
A witness told CHP officers the driver was speeding before the collision, lost control of the car and went down the right shoulder embankment.
The driver was pronounced dead on scene. No other cars were involved.
The crash is under investigation.
