1 Killed in Crash on Mission Avenue in Oceanside

One person died in a car crash on Mission Avenue in Oceanside Tuesday night, prompting a Sig Alert that was expected to last into Friday morning.

The 22-year-old driver was traveling on the 3500 block of Mission at around 9:40 p.m. when his car crashed into a raised center median, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The car then flipped several times before coming to a stop in bike lanes along Mission Avenue. 

The man was declared dead at the scene.

OPD was investigating if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. 

The man's identity would not be released until family could be notified, OPD said.

A Sig Alert issued for Mission Avenue shortly after the crash was expected to last five hours.
