A family is mourning this Father's Day weekend after a father of two was killed in a crash on Interstate 15 early Saturday morning.
Gregory Lawrence Scott, 40, of Spring Valley, was killed when his car hit an abandoned SUV that was stopped on the freeway near the I-8 junction around 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
His wife says they were high school sweet hearts. The couple met in Canada when they were 16 and have not been apart since for more than two decades.
His wife, Christy Scott, explained he played ice hockey every Friday and was coming home after hanging with some friends, but he never made it home.
A witness called 911 and medics and law enforcement rushed to the scene,
but Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP is investigating.
