A man was killed and a woman was injured after an assault in a Manzanita Canyon homeless encampment, San Diego police said.
Officers were called about 9 p.m. Monday to a canyon off Manzanita Drive and Snowdrop Street in the Azalea and Hollywood Park neighborhood.
An unconscious man was found in the canyon east of the Interstate 805 and State Route 15 connector and north of State Route 94. The man, described by police as 29 years old, was bleeding from a wound in his upper torso, police said.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members, according to SDPD officials.
A woman in the encampment was also wounded in her upper torso, police said. She was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.
SDPD's Homicide detectives said the suspect was seen running from the canyon with a woman.
