1 Dead, 1 Injured After Shooting Near City Heights Park

San Diego police believe the shooting may be linked to gang violence

One person was killed and another wounded Friday night in a shooting near a City Heights park.

San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officers were sent to the corner of Teralta Park at about 7:20 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of gunshots being fired in the area, SDPD said.

Two men were shot, SDPD said.

One man died from his wounds at the scene while the second man was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to survive.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not made available. It was not clear if officers were looking for any outstanding suspects.

Officers created a perimeter around a section of the park and launched their investigation Friday night. Hours later, detectives said they were looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.

The names of the men who were shot were not immediately released.

The police department said anyone with information on the shooting can reach out to the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
