One person was shot after a group went to an El Cajon home Monday to collect a drug-related debt, San Diego County Sheriff's officials say.
The group came to the 8200 block of Limon Lane at about 4:30 p.m. and forced their way into a garage, trying to assault the homeowner, according to investigators.
But the homeowner had armed himself with a shotgun, and he fired at least one round into an intruder's leg. The man was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover.
One of homeowner's three dogs was also injured in the assault and has since been treated.
Deputies were able to track down a silver sedan seen fleeing the scene, pulling it over on Rockview Drive.
In the car, deputies say they found a small amount of methamphetamine and a clown mask.
Three men have since been arrested on suspicion of home invasion robbery.

Sheriff's deputies say they have been called to the residence before for drug and stolen car-related calls.
The incident is still under investigation.
Newroz Miren has lived in the area for 15 years, and he said the man who lives in the house is very nice. However, Miren has noticed some strange people visiting recently.
"They're loud sometimes. They fight, but I've never heard of a shooting," said Miren.
