NBC 7 Investigates: San Diego Police Department Gun Range Shut Down Over Lead Concerns

No bullets have been fired at the San Diego Police Department’s outdoor gun range since May 17. Police Chief David Nisleit closed down the range over concerns about lead exposure. It could be another five months until it’s reopened. So far, seven officers have filed worker’s compensation claims after blood testing showed elevated lead levels in their bodies. Jared Wilson, the President of the San Diego Police Officers Association, is urging all members to get similar blood tests.
