Sick Mouse Prompts Health Scare

Wild rodent found in park prompts warning

The public is urged to watch out for mice in their homes and avoid exposure to the Hantavirus, county Health Department spokesman Chris Conlan said Wednesday.

A wild mouse trapped at a Tierrasanta Park has tested positive for the disease.

The sick mouse was found at the west side of Mission Trails Regional Park. It’s the fourth confirmed mouse to have Hantavirus locally this year.

Residents should not sweep or vacuum rodent droppings or urine. Instead they should use a 10 percent bleach-to-water solution and rubber gloves to clean up contaminated areas, Conlan said.
