NBC 7 Responds and Telemundo 20 are stepping up to help pay off $1 million dollars’ worth of medical debt in San Diego.
We are partnering with RIP Medical Debt to forgive debt to thousands of San Diegans.
NBC Universal is making the donation that will ultimately forgive $15 million worth of medical debt for people around the country.
RIP Medical Debt says it identifies hardships and buys the accounts in bulk for pennies on the dollar and then closes them.
For every $1 that’s donated, $100 in debt may be forgiven.
NBC 7 Responds does not choose the specific people that benefit from the program.
RIP Medical Debt buys the debt and notifies recipients by mail, NBC 7 is not involved in the selection process.
