Five Flu-Fighting Foods

It's not too late to get a flu shot, but there are five fruits and vegetables that could help you fight the flu.

Flu activity is increasing, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), so if you want to help combat that dreaded cough, fever, headache and overall achy feeling, head to the produce aisle. Fruit fights the germs we're exposed to in the winter, Men's Health Magazine reported.

"The vitamin load keeps your immune level high, allowing you to fend off colds and flu" said Amy Howell,  a research scientist at Rutgers University.

The Men's Health article lists five fruits and vegetables: bananas, for vitamin B6, which will helps to fatigue; papayas are recommended for the surprising amount of vitamin C they contain. To find out what the other fruits and veggies are in the Fruits Fight the Flu article.

If you have not received a flu shot, it's still not too late, according to the CDC.  It  takes 10 days to two weeks for the medicine to become fully effective.
