San Diego's Big Losers

Locals lose lots in competition modeled after popular show

San Diego has some biggest losers of its own.  A weight loss contest at a San Diego gym, modeled after the NBC show “The Biggest Loser,” just wrapped up with the winning team of five losing 216 pounds and 16.7 percent of their body weight all together.

It’s actually called the “Biggest Winner Ultimate Thinner” weight loss contest.  In all, the gym says participants lost 2,643 pounds.

“Yes it feels good to help people lose weight but what really means the most is transforming the lives of these people,” said Kyle Sandsmark with Fitness Quest 10.

The winning team called “Chaffe No More” won $5,000 cash. Contestant Jason Texler began the contest at 360 pounds and lost 72.8 pounds and almost 20 percent of his bodyweight.

A gym spokesman says Texler “was the true MVP of the contest.  He worked out harder then anyone else, ate food that was good for him, and really transformed his life.”

Texler’s wife Carey lost 37 pounds and almost 15 percent of her bodyweight. Teammate Joe Hubarth lost more than 35 pounds, while Nicole Goodrich lost 27 pounds and Danny Goodrich lost 44 pounds.
