Salon Worker Tests Positive for TB

Client and coworkers of a South Bay salon got some hairy news from county health workers this week.

An employee of Creative Hair Styles in the 200 block of Third Street in Chula Vista was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Now, county health officials said anybody who spent up to eight hours between Jan. 21 and April 15 at the salon should contact their doctor.

"Anyone who is showing symptoms of TB should go to their doctor and get tested," said county public health officer Wilma Wooten. "Fortunately, it is curable."

Symptoms of tuberculosis include a persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. So far in 2009, there have been 47 confirmed cases in San Diego County. There were 264 last year.
