SDSU Daycare Reopens Doors After Flu Scare

SDSU's campus daycare reopened its doors after being closed due to the swine flu scare.

The SDSU Children's Center has been closed since 20 children reported experiencing flu-like symptoms. Three staff members also reported similar symptoms.

On Thursday and Friday, a higher-than normal percentage of children reported flu-like symptoms, SDSU President Stephen L. Weber said. He also said children under 5 years old are considered "high risk" for complications due to the flu.

“We know this closure represents a major inconvenience for the 200-plus families with children at our day-care center, most of whom are students, faculty and/or staff, but we believe an abundance of caution is warranted until more information is available,” Weber said last week.

The SDSU campus remained open while health officials investigated another case of possible swine flu of a student who went to health services last Tuesday with a fever, cough and body aches, then tested positive for type A influenza.
