A diabetes care company has announced the voluntary recall of 62 million glucose test strips distributed in both the United States and outside the continental USA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed.
Nova Diabetes Care has initiated a voluntary recall of 21 lots of the Nova Max Glucose Test Strips. Nova Max Plus glucose meter kits that include test strips from the recalled lots are also included in the company’s recall.
The test strips are used to measure blood sugar levels. However, the company recently determined that some strips included in the recall may report false, abnormally high blood sugar readings for those living with diabetes.
The FDA says the strips are contaminated with a chemical used in the manufacturing process, which interferes with readings.
The company says those who use the Nova Max Glucose Test Strips should immediately stop using them. Customers can return the strips and receive replacements at no charge by calling the company’s customer service line at (800) 681-7390.
