Foods that Fight the Flu

In case you hadn't heard, it's flu season. It's also holiday season. And bipolar season for financial markets. In an already tenuous time, the stress levels don't help our health. But there's good news.

A certain type of flavanoid called quercetin is believed to help fight the flu. According to RealAge, a study recently looked at animals whose immune systems were lowered due to physical stress. The animals showed a boost back to normal immunity with quercetin.

Although the results have not been confirmed in humans, it couldn't hurt to consume apples, broccoli, or red onions, all of which contain quercetin. They may help you fight the flu. Plus they're packed with fiber and other healthy nutrients such as vitamins A, B and C.

Oh, and you might want to get that flu shot... just in case.
