A British man who has been blind for 30 years says he now has limited vision, after an experimental surgery in London.
"Ron" says he can see lines on the road and even sort his laundry with his new "bionic eye."
The device, developed by the U.S. company Second Sight, uses a camera and video processor mounted on sunglasses to send captured images wirelessly to a tiny receiver on the outside of the eye.
That receiver passes on data to electrodes that have been placed on the retina.
Doctors hope patient's brain will learn to translate the flashes of light and dark colors into meaningful images.
Ron is one of 18 people in the world who have been fitted with the device.
The technology is designed for people who have lost their sight due to inherited eye diseases.
