Who Would Replace Lt Governor Newsom?

Do you have what it takes to be the next Mayor of San Francisco?

If Gavin Newsom wins the race for lieutenant governor, The City will need to replace him with an interim mayor. Who'll it be? We're hoping to see a campaign to draft the Bushman of Fisherman's Wharf.

Although it would be fun to select a successor with a dance-off, bake-off, or swimsuit competition, the decision is actually made by the Board of Supervisors. During a debate with candidates for District 8 supervisor, candidates volunteered the names of their picks for the post.

Scott Weiner favored Sheriff Michael Hennessey, State Senator Marc Leno, City Attorney Dennis Herrera, or D8 supe Bevan Dufty for the post. Rafael Mandelman liked Hennessey for the post as well. Rebecca Prozan listed Public Utilities Commission honcho Ed Harrington or City Administrator Ed Lee and said that she wouldn't want the nominee to be someone who plans to run for office in 2012, as Dufty and Herrera have said they would. Bill Hemenger favored D7 Supe Sean Elsbernd for the post.

How good are Gavin's chances? It's hard to say. Of course, if his bid fails, it would give him more time to devote to the winery that he co-owns.
