A woman who said she found a grenade brought it to an LAPD station Sunday, prompting the station to evacuate, police said.
The grenade was deemed safe after a bomb squad was called in to the Mission Hills Police Station before 2:30 p.m., LAPD officials said.
The California Highway Patrol closed the northbound 405 offramp to nearby Rinaldi Street during the evacuation.
Police initially said the woman found the grenade in a foot locker in her son's closet, but later said it belonged to the woman's brother, who is a war veteran.
