DONALD TRUMP

Letter Urging Nordstrom to Boycott Ivanka Trump's ‘Toxic' Brand Goes Viral

Ivanka Trump is engulfed in a maelstrom of protests against her father.

A woman, whose Twitter name is Nasty Woman Laura and who uses the handle @SheWhoVotes, has written an open letter to Nordstrom, calling on the department store to boycott Trump’s clothing and accessories line.

Describing herself as a "lifelong Nordstrom customer," the woman admitted to turning to Nordstrom "for everything but groceries."

But that trend ended because the woman, whose husband she said is Jewish, is "increasingly conflicted about supporting a store that carries any Trump brands."

"The hate speech directed at African Americans, Latinos, Jews, Muslims, LGBT people, and women by the Trump campaign is unacceptable and does not seem to represent Nordstrom's values," she wrote, according to a copy of the letter that she posted on Twitter. "Yet Ms. Trump continues to defend it, and Nordstrom continues to defend her."

The author also accused Trump of providing insufficient maternity leave to female employees and using sweatshops where people are forced to work in "horrific" conditions.

The woman posted a copy of her letter on Twitter and included the #GrabYourWallet hashtag, which is an effort spearheaded by a Bay Area woman.

Shannon Coulter, CEO of DoubleKnown Marketing and Communications, said she was inspired after vulgar tapes about Donald Trump groping women surfaced earlier this month.

Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Marshalls, Amazon, and a slew of other retailers have also received calls and letters demanding that they stop carrying all Trump products.

The Business Insider reported that @SheWhoVotes’ now-viral letter has been shared on Twitter by upwards of 1,300 people.

Although the author does not hold Ivanka Trump "responsible for her father’s conduct," she does hold her accountable for being a "vocal surrogate" and defending him.

However, a spokesperson for Trump said that she is in fact not a campaign surrogate, but the presidential candidate's daughter.

The boycott also ignores a statement issued by Trump following the release of the Access Hollywood tapes, the spokesperson said.

In it, Trump said, "My father's comments were clearly inappropriate and offensive and I'm glad that he acknowledged this fact with an immediate apology to my family and the American people."

According to Women's Wear Daily, a survey conducted by research company Brand Keys showed that Donald Trump's brand has suffered significant damage during his run at the White House, while Ivanka Trump's has been spared.

“When the video surfaced on Oct. 7, she was not among the many surrogates and apologists to rush to Mr. Trump’s defense," Brands Keys president Robert Passikoff told WWD. "And, while there’s been large losses to the [Donald] Trump brand and its ability to bring added value to various products and services, Ivanka’s brand does not appear to have suffered the same fate as her father’s."

For her part, the woman behind @SheWhoVotes acknowledged that Nordstrom "cannot reasonably filter out every brand with questionable business practices or controversial figureheads." However, she stressed, "some brands are so toxic, they will hurt your business by alienating your customers, and this is surely one of them."

"I cannot, in good conscience, continue to support a store willing to do business with a company that devalues me, my husband, and most Americans," she wrote.

The woman has since tweeted that Nordstrom has not replied to her letter, and so she has begun shopping elsewhere.

Nordstrom has yet to respond to NBC Bay Area’s request for comment.
