Venice Beach Residents Vent Fury Over Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Man by Police

Attendees demanded to know exactly what led up to Brendon Glenn's death at the hands of Los Angeles Police Department officers

Irate residents vented their anger about the fatal police shooting of an unarmed homeless man in Venice Beach at a town hall meeting Thursday.

Attendees demanded to know exactly what led up to Brendon Glenn's death at the hands of Los Angeles Police Department officers Tuesday night.

Tempers flared, and many people in the crowd interrupted panel members and LAPD representatives when they tried to talk.

One speaker praised Chief Beck, who has said he has not seen evidence of the "extraordinary circumstances" that would justify shooting an unarmed man.  He criticized the panel for not following suit.

"(Chief Beck) basically says that he was very concerned but we haven't really heard that message from you here tonight," the man said.

Others demanded that surveillance footage of the incident be released to the public.

"Is there surveillance video and if there is how can we haven't seen it yet?" He said.

The shooting took place near tourist hot spot Townhouse & Del Monte Speakeasy bar, close to the intersection of Windward and Pacific avenues at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, and they handed over surveillance footage of the shooting to police.

NBC4 did obtain footage which shows officer pushing people back from the scene, but it does not show the actual confrontation between Glenn and police.

LAPD Captain Tony Caranza said it would be some time before the video's released to the public due to the pending investigation, but the chief will make the decision.
