Two Fatal Officer-Involved Shootings in San Jose in Six Hours

San Jose police officers were involved in two shootings in about six hours – both of which were deadly.

In the most recent shooting, the suspect was found dead by about 6:15 a.m. Officers had been looking for him inside a home for more than five hours, NBC Bay Area first reported. The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said Monday afternoon.

Police had been looking for him since 12:11 a.m. Monday, after a woman reported that her brother was drunk and called police, Officer Albert Morales said. Officers showed up to the 1300 block of San Marcos Street and said the brother had a gun and was “threatening to harm himself,” Morales said.

Two officers fired their guns at him, but he backed up into the house.  When the suspect was killed - either inside the home, or before - also was not immediately clear. The officers were not injured.

About six hours earlier on Sunday, officers went to investigate a stabbing at 6:21 p.m. near Virginia Avenue and S. 34th Street.

When they got there, they found a man had been stabbed. The suspect had fled the scene, but officers found who they thought might have done it near San Antonio and Avenue and Packing Place and fired their guns at him because they “feared for their safety,” Morales said.

Morales described the suspect as “armed” but did not say with what and he did not describe the suspect’s behavior. The suspect died shortly after he was shot, Morales said.

The stabbing victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
