Twins Born During Daylight Saving Time Share Rare Birthday

A maternity nurse said "it was the first time she has ever seen this happen in more than 40 years of nursing!"

Daylight Saving Time put an interesting twist on a set of twins' shared birthday in Massachusetts.

In a post on the hospital's Facebook page that was liked more than a thousand times, the staff posed a riddle: "Samuel was born first, but his twin brother Ronan is older. How is that possible?"

The answer is pretty simple, but also pretty rare.

Cape Cod Healthcare said Samuel was born on Nov. 6 at 1:39 a.m.

Daylight Saving Time didn't go into effect until 2 a.m. that day.

So when baby brother Ronan came along 31 minutes later, the time had already fallen back. Ronan's birth certificate reads he was born at 1:10 a.m., making him official the older "younger" brother.

Oof -- try explaining that to the twins when they're toddlers

Proud parents, Massachusetts State Police trooper Seth Peterson and wife Emily, will probably have to do just that.

"I said earlier that night that they were either going to be born on two different days or the time change was going to come into play," Peterson said.

Maternity nurse Deb Totten said "it was the first time she has ever seen this happen in more than 40 years of nursing!"
