Police had to disperse up to 2,000 unruly revelers who tried to break into an oversubscribed free concert in downtown Los Angeles Friday.
Central Division officers put out a help call at 11 p.m. as they struggled to move the crowd from in front of the Regent Theater on the 400 block of Main Street., where hip hop artiste Lil B was headlining, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Music fans had arrived at around 10 p.m. to attend the RSVP show, which had been promoted through social media. However the venue only has a capacity of up to 450 people.
When they were refused entry the crowd attempted to break the entrance doors down, then began throwing objects, including rocks and bottles, at police.
Dozens of officers arrived in riot gear, made skirmish lines and eventually disbursed the unruly crowd.
Five people were arrested, one for throwing bottles at officers, two for failing to disperse and two for alcohol-related offenses.
Lil B posted several tweets from fans who complained about the police response.
