Runaway Horse On 210 Freeway Escapes Down a Side Street In Sylmar

Motorists took it on themselves to form a blockade on the Foothill (210) Freeway Sunday when they spotted a horse galloping down the shoulder of the freeway.

California Highway Patrol officers reported the horse was spotted at 3:08 p.m. on the westbound freeway near Osborne Street, in the northeast corner
of the San Fernando Valley.

Four vehicles tried to block the animal on the westbound 210 Freeway, just west of Osborne Street, so it wouldn't get hit by oncoming traffic, the CHP reported.

According to a witness, the horse jumped over the guard rail down the embankment and then broke through a gate that was along the street. The horse was then chased down the street until it was caught in a front yard.

Witnesses say animal control was called at the scene.

Los Angeles police had no report of the runaway equine and Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Services could not be reached for comment. It is unknown if the horse has been returned to its owner.
