A 65-year-old man died Saturday after the backyard tunnel he was in collapsed, police said.
The man was reportedly trapped in a trench on Yale Street near Corona Avenue in Ontario shortly before 6 p.m.
The caller stated that they had been watching their neighbor digging a tunnel in his backyard looking for rocks. When they returned, the caller discovered the tunnel had collapsed.
They attempted to dig the man out of the trench while rescue units were on the way, but the person in the collapsed tunnel had died.
No further information was available.
