Man Charged in Deadly Central California Ice Cream Truck Crash

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) – Prosecutors have filed manslaughter charges against a Central California man accused of striking and killing a 3-year-old girl in front of an ice cream truck while driving under the influence.

The Fresno Bee reports that Tulare County prosecutors have charged 18-year-old Adolfo Balbuena with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with special allegations, including hit and run.

Authorities say Balbuena lost control of his car on Sunday in Porterville and went through a fence and into a crowd of people in front of the ice cream truck, which was parked in a driveway. He then allegedly backed up and sped away.

Three-year-old Angeles Moreno died. Several other people, including Angeles' two siblings, suffered minor injuries.

It was not known whether Balbuena had an attorney.
