A 16-year-old was killed and an 18-year-old is in critical condition after a shooting near Armijo High School in Fairfield Friday evening.
Fairfield police reported to a shooting in the area of Bell Ave and Washinigton Street around 5 p.m. and upon arrival discovered two groups of people were involved in an altercation.
The 16-year-old was identified as Ahmar Willis, a Fairfield resident and the 18-year-old, who's name has not been released, is from the city of Vallejo.
"As officers arrived on scene, there appeared to be some sort of a gun battle at that location resulting in the injuries of two people," said Greg Hurlbet from the Fairfield Police Department.
The police activity prompted the temporary lockdown of Armijo High School as around 500 students were preparing for a rally to be conducted prior to a regularly scheduled football game.
"You never think it’s going to happen to us or anywhere near us and it does, it’s scary," said student Justin Duff.
One of two suspects reportedly fled and hid inside the school gym unarmed, where students were on lockdown, but was later apprehended by police.

"The subject that fled the scene appeared to be connect to the shooting and that was mixed in with the students at the gym," said Hurlbet.
Two people were arrested and parents were able to pick up their children about three hours after the initial shooting report.
"You never think you’re going to be at your child’s football game all of a sudden you are working concession and you are on the floor and someone on campus shooting with a gun," said parent Karen Duff.
