Package From Austin Prompts Bomb Squad Call Out in South Los Angeles

The package was given the all clear by the bomb squad around 9 p.m.

A package with a return address of Austin, Texas that was delivered by FedEx Wednesday to a South Los Angeles home prompted a bomb squad call out.

The item was reported about 6:20 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Bronson Avenue in the Leimert Park area, according to Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im.

The resident was not expecting a package and didn't know the sender, Im said.

The bomb squad determined by 9 p.m. that the item was not a threat.

Austin experienced a spate of bombings investigators said they believe were the work of a 23-year-old man who fatally blew himself up Wednesday as officers closed in on him.

Two people were killed in the bombings, which began on March 2. Five others were injured.
