One-Third of San Jose Pot Shops Ordered to Close

San Jose will start closing down cannabis clubs throughout the city, as tough new restrictions go into effect.

About one-third of the pot shops will be ordered to close Friday with more shut downs expected in the coming months.

(Editor’s note: The city isn’t actively shutting down clubs yet – they one year to “get in compliance” with the new masure.)

Thursday was the last day for protesters to gather signatures for a referendum in an effort to get the rules overturned.

The new rules limit where medical marijuana shops can operate and the restrictions make it impossible for some existing shops to stay open.

Owners, employees and supporters of San Jose pot clubs gathered in front of San Jose City Hall last Thursday to fight back, encouraging the community to join in.

The clubs were offering a voucher for a free medical marijuana evaluation to the first 1,000 people who showed up.
