A Duarte man caught on camera killing a young deer with a bow and arrow near homes in Monrovia pleaded no contest Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge.
Michael Jackson Rodriguez, 34, was immediately sentenced to 30 days of community service and three years probation following his plea in a Pasadena courtroom to a misdemeanor count of possessing fish or wildlife taken unlawfully, according to Deputy District Attorney Richard Magleby.
Rodriguez is also required to surrender all hunting licenses, is barred from hunting while on probation, must pay a $1,000 fine to the state Fish and Game Preservation Fund and forfeit his seized property, including a bow, arrows and the remains of the deer to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to the prosecutor.
He was initially charged with four criminal charges, including a felony count of filing false information, following an investigation by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
