Malibu Vintners Fighting Back Against Ban on New Vineyards

Malibu wine growers are fighting back against a temporary ban imposed last month by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on new vineyards in the north Santa Monica Mountains.

During a meeting Tuesday, the board extended the existing ordinance for an additional four months, citing it as an effort to reduce water usage during the crippling California drought.

County officials received 51 applications for new vineyards in the last 10 months. They agreed to allow 28 new applicants reapply based on certain requirements, including using drip irrigation only to save water.
