LAPD Officer Shoots Woman in Hollywood

There were no reports of injuries involving anyone other than the woman shot by police

A Los Angeles police officer shot and wounded a woman in a Hollywood & Highland Center parking lot early Friday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. in a lower-level parking area at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Hollywood, police said.

The woman who was shot, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital with a leg wound, said Sgt. John Cuenca at the LAPD’s Hollywood Station.

Police said the woman was involved in a fight with another woman and was swinging a bat, before she pointed a gun first at a security guard and then at a police officer, prompting an officer to fire.

There were no reports of injuries involving anyone other than the woman shot by police.

The parking garage remained closed through much of the morning while police investigated.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave, which is procedure as the investigation takes place.
