I-5 Reopens After Mudslide Near Castaic

Traffic was backed up for miles north of Los Angeles after a mudslide shut down 35 miles of northbound Interstate 5 Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.

Lanes were reopened at 11:15 p.m., approximately four hours after the initial reports of a mudslide.

CHP officers closed I-5 approximately 35 to 40 miles south of Parker Road. It took about 30 minutes to move one mile, according to drivers.

"We have been sitting here on the I-5 for about 3.5 hours. So much snow. No one has moved. People are just turning off their cars now. We might be staying the night in the car tonight unless they clear the road," Instagram user Katelyn Webb said.

There were no reports of anyone injured or trapped.
