Fire Rips Through Commercial Building in Glassell Park

A major emergency fire swept through a commercial building in Glassell Park Monday, forcing firefighters to fight the blaze from outside the structure.

Over 150 firefighters responded to the fire, which was reported about 5:20 p.m. in a two-story, L-shaped building at 3501 N. San Fernando Road, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"This major emergency fire quickly spread causing heavy flames throughout the building, forcing firefighters to battle the blaze in a defensive mode," Bastman said.

Crews poured water onto the structure as flames leaped through its roof.

Firefighters had to contend with downed wires and a structurally compromised wall, according to Bastman.

The Glendale Fire Department was assisting in the firefight.
