Ex-USC, Raiders Quarterback Todd Marinovich Faces Drug, Trespass Charges

Former USC and Raiders quarterback Todd Marinovich, who has a history of drug-related arrests, faces misdemeanor drug and tresspass charges, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

Misdemeanor drug and trespass charges that could bring a maximum three-year jail sentence have been filed against the former standout.

The 47-year-old Irvine resident is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Nov. 9 at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.

He was arrested last month in Irvine, where police say he was found naked and with marijuana in a residential backyard.

While looking for the suspect on a trail, officers "heard noises from a backyard off of Bluecoat."

The residents of the home also called police, saying they saw the nude suspect in their yard.

Marinovich was cited and released after police booked him on suspicion of trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sans clothes and thus with "no pockets," Marinovich was carrying marijuana around in a "brown bag," Hallinan said.

The 47-year-old Marinovich was a star quarterback at USC and the Raiders' first-round draft pick in 1991, but drug problems drove him from the NFL after two seasons and he has had repeated run-ins with the law over drugs in the decades since.
