Dog Rescued From Burning Burbank Apartment

A dog was back in its owner's arms after firefighters rescued it from a burning apartment in Burbank on Saturday night.

The pup named Cocoa was limp and had soot on its nose, but was expected to be OK after being pulled from the fire in the 100 block of Ash Street, Burbank Fire Capt. Pete Hendrickson said.

The blaze broke out in a second-floor unit about 7 p.m. and grew to a two-alarm fire, Hendrickson said. Firefighter were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

No one was injured.

After being checked out in an ambulance, Cocoa was returned to its owner as neighbors cheered.

"I'm just glad the dog is OK," said witness Shirley Franklin. "I was afraid the dog was not going to be around. I was happy for the people."
