Coast Guard Finds Sailor's Body in San Francisco Bay

Officials say they've recovered the body of a sailor whose boat sank in San Francisco Bay near the Golden Gate Bridge.

U.S. Coast Guard searchers recovered the body of 31-year-old Andrew Henry Ewing, of Sacramento, whose boat crashed on the rocks early Monday and sank, the Marin County Sheriff's Department confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Coast Guard officials tell the Contra Costa Times that searchers found the body on Tuesday morning in the water near Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay.

The search began at 4:15 a.m. on Monday when the Coast Guard received a distress signal from a 30-foot sailboat named the Alma.

Officials say the Alma set out Sunday from Grand St. Marina in Alameda with plans of sailing to Hawaii.
