The northbound 5 Freeway was closed early Wednesday in Santa Clarita due to a big rig fire that spread to brush.
All lanes were closed near Calgrove Boulevard, causing a traffic backup that extended past the 14 Freeway interchange. Details about the fire were not immediately available, but authorities said flames spread into nearby brush after the driver pulled to the side of the freeway.
Firefighters knocked down the fire, which left the embankment charred near the freeway exit. Authorities also reported a fuel leak, requiring a hazardous materials team response.
The lanes were reopened later Wednesday.
