2 Men Arrested in Beating, Robbery of Deaf Man Outside Riverside Coffee Shop

Two men have been arrested in the beating and robbery of a deaf man outside a Riverside coffee shop last month, police said Tuesday.

Riverside residents Daniel Allen Estremera and Dawone Anthony Finnell, both 22, were taken into custody in connection with the incident that was caught on surveillance video in the early morning hours of May 19, Riverside Police Department officials said.

The video shows the victim sitting alone at a table outside a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf when two men walk up and assault him. While one of the robbers struggles for control over the victim's MacBook laptop, the other lands several punches and elbows on the victim's head. The victim falls out of the chair and the men run off with the laptop.

Police said they received "numerous" calls from the public after releasing the video. Their investigation led them to the two suspects. A third man who police were searching for was cleared of any wrongdoing, police said.

Estremera and Finnell face charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and violation of parole.

The 20-year-old victim, who suffered minor injuries, received an outpouring of support from the public, police said. His family wished to remain anonymous and declined offers to replace the stolen laptop.
