Driver Dies in Wrong-Way Crash on 101 Fwy in Studio City

A 25-year-old man was killed and another man was hurt when a wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle on the 101 Freeway in Studio City early Saturday morning, officials said.

The crash was reported just after 4 a.m. on the westbound 101 Freeway just west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers said a blue Honda Accord was traveling the wrong way on the fast lane and struck a Lincoln SUV head-on.

The wrong-way driver, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews rescued the driver of the SUV, who had been trapped in the crash. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to the CHP.

The crash, which involved two vehicles, forced officers to close all lanes on the westbound 134 Freeway to the 101 Freeway, and the northbound 101 Freeway to the westbound 101 Freeway, according to the CHP. Lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The collision was under investigation.
