10 to 20 Great White Sharks Sighted Off Long Beach Coast

Officials emphasized that the sharks have not shown aggressive behavior

Long Beach Fire Department Marine Safety officials believe there are 10 to 20 great white sharks currently swimming off the coast of Long Beach — all spotted within the past week.

Advisory signs are posted throughout a 1.5 mile stretch of the beach where sharks have been sighted, from Grenada Avenue to 72nd Place.

The advisory hasn't stopped beach-goers like Susan Postikoff and her dog Mason.

"I'm not worried about him. He doesn't go very far into the waves. He'll just jump into the waves and jump back out," Postikoff said.

Safety officials said these great whites have come within 10 feet of the shoreline this week, but emphasized the sharks have not shown aggressive behavior.

Officials said most of them are juveniles.

Signs are expected to be taken down Monday, unless there is another sighting.
