$1 Million Pledged for Beauty Scholarships

Several Southern California salons and spas have partnered together to pledge $1 Million towards scholarships for San Diegans wishing to pursue careers in beauty.

The initiative is called the We Love Our Jobs scholarship pledge. Participating salons/spas have the opportunity to sponsor $100,000 each in scholarships to give people interested in pursuing a career in beauty and wellness.

"Job loss and pay cuts have forced many San Diegans to consider a new career. Beauty should be at the top of their list because we not only affect how clients feel about themselves when they look in the mirror, statistics prove it can be extremely lucrative," said Lynelle Lynch, President of Bellus Academy.

There is a high demand for skilled cosmetologists, Lynch said. Almost 70 percent of salon and spa operators say that they are unable to find qualified applications to hire. Lynch noted that because of this, jobs are immediately available upon graduation to people with the right skills and advanced training.

The US Dept. of Labor agrees-- according to the release, the US Dept. of Labor reported Estheticians can expect almost a 38 percent increase in job openings.

For details, including names of participating salons and spas,  visit We Love Our Jobs online or visit a participating salon and spa to speak with a professional about the benefits of a career in beauty. Applicants must apply by March 30.
