Clay Aiken: I'm Gay

Breaking news: Water is wet, the sky is blue, Clay is gay.

“Yes, I’m Gay,” the People magazine headline reads as Clay Aiken finally makes an admission that’s shocking to no one except the army of middle-aged “Claymates” who defended his honor against whisper, rumor, and some evidence.

"It was the first decision I made as a father," Aiken, 29, says of his decision to come out of the closet

"I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn't raised that way, and I'm not going to raise a child to do that," Aiken says in the issue of People that hits newsstands Friday.

Aiken, who has been dogged by rumors about his homosexuality since his days as a breakout star on “American Idol,” has repeatedly denied that he’s gay, telling People magazine in earlier interview that people will believe what they want.  When Diane Sawyer asked him point-blank, he called the question “really rude.”

A new father who conceived a child with his best friend via in vitro fertilization, Aiken said he risked alienating some of his fan base because he was tired of keeping up the facade and wouldn’t lie to his newly born son.

His fans should  "know that I've never intended to lie to anybody at all,” Aiken told People. “But if they leave, I don't want them to leave hating me.”
