Alex Rodriguez won't be skiing at Vail anytime soon, but he should be getting to work on the road back to the Yankees before much longer. His right hip repair at the Vail Valley Surgery Center went off without a hitch, according to his doctor.
"Alex is doing very well," Dr. Marc Philippon said. "The surgery went exactly as we planned."
Rodriguez is expected to be released from the hospital later on Monday and will begin his rehab straightaway. If all goes well, according to the Daily News, A-Rod could be swinging a bat before the week is out. He's expected to miss six to nine weeks as a result of the surgery, and will still need another operation after the season is over.
It's unclear what, if any, impact the successful surgery will have on Yankee plans to cope with Rodriguez's absence. Short of him bleeding out on the table, there wasn't much that could have happened today to inform the decision-making on that front.
The Daily News also sees fit to remind readers that Rodriguez will continue to get paid his $28 million salary while he's making his way back from the surgery. Why that qualifies as news is a bit of a mystery, but, if you were wondering, there's also a health insurance plan and a pension for professional baseball players.
