What kind of person throws 12-day-old puppies into the dumpster? That's what County of San Diego Animal Services wants to know.
Two puppies were discovered in a chip box on Jan. 2 by a good Samaritan who found them when he was taking out his trash and reported it.
“These dogs would’ve either died without their mom or we perish to think what would've happen if the trash company came and emptied that dumpster," said Daniel DeSousa, Director for the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.
DeSousa said it's hard to tell what breed they are because they are so young, but he believes they are Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies.
“Since they were found in a chip box, the little girl’s name is Frida like 'Fritos' and the little boy, his name is Cheeto," added DeSousa.
The rescue group caring for the puppies feeds them once every two hours.
The puppies will be available for adoption in six weeks. The adoption agency is not being released until that time so that they are not bombarded with emails and phone calls, Animal Services added.

The person who dumped the puppies is still on the loose. The suspect or suspects could face animal abandonment or animal cruelty charges.
