New Additions for Local Beaches

If you're planning on heading out to the beaches this weekend, you might notice some new additions to the sand: new trash and recycling bins.

“The additional receptacles are necessary to help city officials keep up with the elevated amounts of trash created throughout major holidays," San Diego Clean Beach Coalition said.

Last year more than 396,000 pounds of trash from temporary and permanent bins were removed after the holiday weekend.

The SDCBC raised more than $15,000 to support the purchase and placement of more than 200 trash and recycle bins for both Independence and Labor Day holidays.

The cardboard bins will be placed on the sand in Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Mission Bay Park and Pacific Beach.
