Chargers Find New Coach

Former Buffalo Bill To Handle Tight Ends

Former Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt just about has his coaching staff filled out in Tennessee.

It looks like Jason Michael is the only guy from San Diego's coaching staff coach Whis will take with him. Michael left to be the Titans offensive coordinator, so the Bolts were in the market for a new tight ends coach, and Buffalo Bills fans of the early 1990's will love this.

New Bolts offensive coordinator Frank Reich went back to his roots to find Pete Metzelaars.

Metzelaars spent 16 years in the NFL, 10 of them with Buffalo, helping the Bills reach 4 straight Super Bowls. He was also a 3-time Pro Bowl Alternate who caught 383 passes for 3,686 yards and 29 touchdowns in his career.

Reich was with Metzelaars for all of those 10 years in Upstate New York, then they went together to the expansion Carolina Panthers, and get this ... the first touchdown in Panthers history came on a pass from Frank Reich to Pete Metzelaars in the 1995 season opener.

Metzelaars was an assistant coach for 8 years in Indianapolis (working with current Chargers general manager Tom Telesco) and spent last year back in Buffalo.

Welcome to a place where it's warm, Pete!
